Fine words Michael, as an author myself I wish I had your skills to paint a picture so clearly and accurately. Having seen much of this nation and the Kimberley, I am reminded of a monolith I gazed upon one day in Halls Creek, Kimberley WA.

In the town centre there is a huge column on top of which is perched a massive black ⚫️ Iron Ball.

As I surveyed this marker a local blackfella and elder whom befriended me said " They used to chain my people to that last century for punishment " left out in the 50 degree heat many died for it was not possible to move such a heavy weight.

This makes your words even more stark and truthful, well done my friend

I miss the freedom of growing up on a sheep station half way between Broken Hill and Wilcania. It’s hard-luck country and my partner said how could you live out there? I loved it.

‘Did you reach this far?

Are you pissed off?

Do you want to find me, tell me off?

Maybe punch, or hurt me?

I hope so’

Sorry to disappoint you but hell no, quite the opposite mister

I seen the word Kimberley and I had to read. Both are brilliant thank you. It only became a prison after invasion. Halls Creek has a very appropriate nick name. HELLS CRACK.
