Commonwealth bank kept texting asking me to go to a branch and update my details. I have had the Acc for 40 years and never been asked that before. ( I was aware re Digital ID focus of late in all areas) I ignored texts and as far as I can recall, I received emails also, I ignored them all, with all scams these days, I do not take much notice of texts, calls/ emails that come in random/ unexpected, especially re money/ banking.
I had never received emails or texts before. I may get a hard copy letter but normally expected, like years ago when I got quarterly statements
The texts etc would say, if I do not update details ( which they had anyway as I did visit a branch e.g when moving etc. They had current details as I received emails, texts and later after closing Acc a hard copy letter
The hard copy letter received "after" they closed Acc had an address in NSW, my branch is in Qld
I wrote back asking who they are ? Why they would close Acc after 40 years and never had I had this occur before
The thing is, I had a $2000.00 over-draft that I would use and pay online
I looked at Acc after letter stating my Acc was closed and sure enough, I could not pay into the Acc
I thought, that is very odd. I then received another letter demanding payment and interest fees had been added
I wrote back but nothing changed. Received another letter, so I wrote back stating they had closed my Acc without my permission, they had as a result faulted in giving me the ability to pay but yet, charging fees
Letter came nil response to mine but demands for payment with added fees
I contacted AFCA and put in a complaint
I waited and nil requests for payment was being sent. Sometime goes by and I received a very strange letter, stating I would no longer be able to get extensions on my over draft lol ? In the AFCA letter, I stated in closing that I now wish for my Acc to be closed and any demand for payment be null and void as CB had broken the contract
Have not heard anything since and this was all going on at the end of 2023, into 2024, finally closing Acc early 2024 as far as I remember
It really makes me concerned for those with mortgages etc as, how can they fight their demands when their house/ whole life depends on it
My son has an Acc with CB, he also was being demanded to update details by texts etc but they never closed his Acc, most likely due to a credit card Link as they may be losing money due to their unreasonable requests
